The Middlemists are where most of the aeroliths float, slowly rotating around the Ultralith in complex orbits, as they cut their way through the fog.
The Middlemists are divided into Upper and Lower regions, using the Thick as the diving line. In the Uppers it is safe from the behemoths and the weather is relatively cool, but pleasant. Though the mists obscure vision beyond the aeroliths, up upon open ground it is usually fairly clear outside of the low lying areas. The Uppers are rich in large, broad-leaf trees and open grasslands, while water flows in a multitude of small creeks as it flows down from the highland regions. Most of the water comes from condensation, though the mists up here sometimes grow thick enough to be considered a light rain.
Things tend to be far less pleasant below the Thick. Light is much more diffuse and limited, while the mists go far beyond damp. Woodlands and plants have less color here, and grow thin and sparse. Farming is difficult due to the lack of strong light, and building near the edge of the aeroliths here is a bad idea due to erosion problems. As if that didn’t make life unpleasant enough here, anyone living below the Thick has to contend with behemoths from time to time. While such creatures cannot remain so high up for very long, they can still do a lot of damage in a short time.
