As a strange mirror of the Solusian faiths, the worship of Annihlous often features the lesser veneration of powerful figures from the past. Most Nihlians use such figures as a focus of their faith in a more literal sense than one would expect, using the actual remains of the venerated individual in their blood rites and sacrifices. Still, these ‘ancestors’ of the faith are an important part of many religious rites down in the dark depths of the world.
Unlike the Solusians, the Nihlians also include greater demonic powers as objects of worship, along side Annihlous. Demon worship is almost unheard of up in the light of Solus, but dark summoners are fairly common below the Thick, often leading small cults to individual demon lords. The most powerful and well-known of the demon-worshipers are probably the drow, who are loyal devotees of a demon called The Spider Queen almost exclusively, going so far as to treat Annihlous as a lesser being.
The main goal of all Nihlian faiths is the creation of Smoke, which will help usher in the end of the world, and the beginning of a new order. The Nihlians don’t see the end of this world as a bad thing, rather they believe that in the next world it is ‘they’ who will be on top. They forsee a literal reversal of fortunes, with darkness radiating down from above and Annihlous creating a new, perfect world, rather than having to devour this current imperfect one.
